First time using an independent BMW specialist – what to expect?

I've been taking my 2015 BMW 328i to the dealership for the past three years because I was afraid of voiding the warranty, but that's finally expired and I just can't justify the dealer labor rates anymore. I've found a well reviewed independent shop that only works on German cars and I'm booked in for a basic oil change and inspection next week. I'm a little nervous because I don't know what the etiquette is for independent shops versus dealers. Do they usually provide loaner cars? Should I bring my own oil if I want a specific brand? And how detailed is the inspection report compared to the multi point checklist the dealer gives you? I'm looking for a quality auto care service that won't try to upsell me on things I don't need but also won't miss something important. For those of you who made the switch from dealer to independent, what was your experience like? Anything I should ask or look out for on my first visit? Thanks in advance for any tips.
